Winnie is blind, has a mental handicap,needs help to walk and suffers from occasional bouts of Eczema. She was educated at the School for the Blind and deaf in Ratmalana and is sweet and kind - hearted person. She has a keen ear for music and sings well. She has taken part in 'm a special child concerts organized by the Rotaract club of Wellawatte and Rare Talent organized by the Leo Club of Kollupitiya. She makes bead necklaces for the annual Cheshire Home sale.

Irene suffers from right Hermaplegia and is confined to a wheelchair. She was orphaned at a young age, is conversant in English and Sinhala and attended St Theresas Batticaloa up to the seventh grade.
Irene is friendly, kind-hearted and makes friends easily, especially with visitors to the home. She helps make envelopes in the workshop and helps Rani, another resident who is bedridden, with her food and keeps her company. Irene was chosen to represent the Cheshire home at Cheshire week in London,. She accompanied the chairman and met HRH Prince Charles who was also attending. She spent two weeks in the U.K.

Sumanawathie has traumatic paraplegia, she suffers from a spinal injury caused by an accident, which has confined her to a wheelchair. She joined the Cheshire Home from the Ragama Rehabilitation Centre an has two children, a daughter and a son. Sumanawathie enjoys working in the kitchen, making envelopes for the office and helping in keeping the wards clean.

She has left hemiparesis and minor epilepsy. Bisomenike joined the home from the Ragama Rehabilitation Centre run by the Social Services Department.She is a Senior Care Assistant and handles her responsibilities well. She has a generous spirit and is always willing to help others. She was a keen participant in � I am a special child� and �Rare Talent� concerts organized the the Rotoract Club of Wellawatte and Leo Club of Kollupitiya and was awarded certificates for them. She is a devout buddhist.Five years ago in what she describes �as the happiest moment of my life� she located her mother and younger brother. She visits them whenever possible.

Mary is a lovely and pleasant person who really enjoys arts and crafts. Kamalawathie suffers from spina bifida with lower limb paralysis which has cinfined her to a wheelchair. She received her education upto grade eight at the Sevana Childrens School. She actively takes part in workshop activities and can sew and embroider beautifully. She has a lovely disposition and takes pride in her work. She takes part in competitions and has won a number of prizes.

Sunil is completely blind and studied at the Deaf and Blind School in Ratmalana, using Braille as a reading medium. When his mother sadly passed away in 1999, he was bereft, left without a carer and joined us at The Cheshire Home. He is very independent and is able to look after his daily living activities and work. Sunil loves to listen to and enjoys music.

Ruwan has Cerebral Palsy. Berfore he joined us at the Cheshire home he was a resident at Sunflower Village, Mulleriywawa for six years from 1994 and the Mark Sri Home in Kalutara. He has a wonderful personality and is a very happy resident. He enjoys making envelopes and doormats among other workshop activities. He enjoys music and can sing well. He�s an avid cricket fan and is always happy to help feed other residents. His parents visit him and take him home for short holidays. He came in third in Shot Put and Discus throws at the national Championships for the Disabled organized by the rotary club of Colombo.

From 2006 - 2009 Lakshman received training in agriculture at the Vibavi training centre at Kukulegama, Kaluwana. He has a pleasant nature is friendly and is keen to get involved in work related to the running of the household. Lakshman Amarawansa is also learning to make doormats at the workshop and is a good dancer.
