Celebrating 60 Years of Care and Compassion

In 2026, the Sir James and Lady Peiris Cheshire Home celebrates 60 years of providing care, dignity, companionship and a supportive family environment for adults with disabilities.

Celebrations Event

In 2026, the Sir James and Lady Peiris Cheshire Home proudly celebrates 60 years of care and compassion. This important milestone reflects six decades of dedicated service to adults with disabilities and the continued commitment of residents, staff, volunteers, donors and well-wishers.

Six decades of dedicated service

The Home was established in January 1966 and formally opened on 19 March 1966 by Group Captain Lord Leonard Cheshire, founder of the Cheshire Homes movement.

Since then, the Home has provided a safe and caring family environment for adults with disabilities. Residents are encouraged to participate in daily life, develop their abilities and enjoy dignity, companionship and personal freedom.

A home built on dignity and belonging

Cheshire Lanka is more than a residential care facility. It is a community where residents are respected as individuals and supported according to their needs, abilities and interests.

Over the years, the Home has continued to provide daily care, meals, accommodation, medical assistance, recreational activities and opportunities for residents to remain active and connected.

The people behind our journey

This 60-year journey has been made possible through the dedication and generosity of many people and organisations. We gratefully recognise the contribution of:

  • Residents who make the Home a warm and welcoming community
  • Staff members who provide daily care and support
  • Board members and advisors who guide the organisation
  • Donors and well-wishers who provide financial and material assistance
  • Medical professionals, volunteers and community partners
  • Families and friends who remain connected with the Home

Continuing our mission

While this anniversary allows us to reflect on the past, it also reminds us of the importance of continuing our mission. The cost of resident care, meals, medical needs, utilities, maintenance and essential services continues to increase.

Support from the community remains essential to help the Home maintain a safe, comfortable and inclusive environment for every resident.

Thank you for being part of our story

As we celebrate 60 years from 1966 to 2026, we extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who has supported the Sir James and Lady Peiris Cheshire Home.

Your kindness, generosity and companionship have helped create a lasting legacy of care, dignity and belonging. Together, we look forward to continuing this meaningful journey for many years to come.
